The Sillustani archaeological complex (funerary towers) sits on a high-plateau mesa, surrounded by a magical lake of striking beauty called Umayo, 33 km northwest of the city of Puno. It's one of the most important necropolises in the Andean world.
It stands out for its giant funerary towers, or chullpas, a true challenge to the laws of gravity and balance, a detail that makes them unique on the continent. They were built by the Kollas and the Incas to bury their dead.
